WinNAV -- WINDOWS NAVIGATOR RELEASE 3.00.62
===========================================
Here is your copy of the latest release of FlashPoint's Windows Navigator
("WinNAV"), for Microsoft Windows 3.0+.
The program and documentation are contained in the self-extracting PKZip
file called NAV062.EXE. To uncompress the file, follow these steps:
1. Log to a tempory drive and path, other than your Microsoft Windows
directory or a directory where you may have installed a previous
version of WinNAV as the extraction process could overwrite an
existing file, (the extracted files are written to the default
or current drive),
2. Type the drive:\path\ and filename (NAV062.EXE) where the archive
file is located, and answer "Y"es when prompted if you want to
extract the WinNAV files.
E.g., type:
d:\path\nav061.exe [and Press the Enter key]
where "d:" is the disk drive where the WinNav disk is located.
After printing the new documentation, you can delete all files except:
FPRES.DLL <--| The DLL files must be in your Windows main or
FPSTR.DLL | system directory (as should all DLL's)
WINNAV.EXE | All remaining files may be placed in another
WINNAV.HLP | directory provided it is in the DOS PATH= setting
WINQPRT.EXE
WINNAV.INI <--| See, "NOTE" below as to INI and other sample
WINNAV.EXP | configuration files
WINNAV.GRP |
WINNAV.HST |
WINNAV.LAU |
WINNAV.MNU |
WNLIST.EXE <--| These are used for supporting DOS shareware
WNVARC.COM | archive utilities PKZIP, ARC, PKARC, LHA/LHArc
WNVLHA.COM | and CVT, and McAfee's Virus SCAN
WNVPKA.COM |
WNVZIP.COM |
ARC2EXE.COM |
PKA2EXE.COM |
The foregoing files may be copied to your Windows main or system directory,
or another directory designated in the DOS PATH= statement, except as
noted with the DLL's.
NOTE: IF YOU HAVE PREVIOUSLY INSTALLED AN EARLIER VERSION OF WINNAV,
DO NOT COPY THE INCLUDED "WINNAV.INI" AS IT WILL OVERWRITE ALL PREVIOUSLY
INSTALLED SETTINGS. The other sample "INI" style files may be modified
for your own system, and as they are new to release 3.00.62 of WinNAV,
no older files will be overwritten.
ORDER FORMS
===========
Note that the file "ORDERFRM.TXT" contains four (4) sets of order forms
for registering WinNAV or purchasing disks. There are seperate forms for
(1) Prepaid Non-Credit Card Orders, (2) Credit Card Orders, (3) Purchase
Orders, and (4) Site License Orders; please use the appropriate form for
any orders.
FLASHPOINT'S SYSRES.EXE UTILITY
===============================
An additional FlashPoint utility program is provided on the distribution
disk set, called "SysRes." This utility displays the percent of available
system resources. This is a preliminary version of a utility that may
later be fully integrated with WinNAV. It can be used to determine which
application is responsible for using all your Windows' system resources
-- no matter how much memory you have, Windows 3.0 only provides 64k for
system resources which are used by all applications.
For example, the Microsoft Windows' Program Manager is one of the biggest
resource consumers, and each icon added to it reduces the resource space
available to other applications.
THIRD PARTY UTILITIES
=====================
On the distribution disk you will also find various utilities which were
developed by third parties. These are either shareware or public domain
applications which are provided for your convenience, but have not been
registered or licensed to you. If you continue to use them, you should
register same with their respective developers; consult each application's
respective documentation on how to register or license same.
SUPPORTED UTILITIES
===================
WinNAV uses certain DOS utilities to perform some of its functions, if you
don't use a particular function you will not need the third party utility.
All utilities or PIF setup file must be in the DOS environment PATH or in
the Windows directories in order to allow WinNAV to launch them.
WinNAV invokes MS/PC-DOS's XCOPY.EXE, to perform alternative copy and backup
operations, from the "File" menu "Utilities" selection.
Other utilities are required by the "Pack" archive and "Virus Scan"
selections and are included with the distribution disk. Optional utility
programs used by CVT.COM for converting compressed files may also be
obtained from other sources, such as a local BBS, Compuserve, PC user groups
and Public Software Libraries. Please refer to WinNAV's User Documentation
for more information.
Note also that some of the Windows applications contained in these utilities
may be Windows 2.1 applications as a result of their developers changes
in distribution of their respective applications for Windows 3.0. If
you are interested in obtaining their Windows 3.0 applications, you will
need to contact them directly.
